Café Central is one of the most popular Viennese coffeehouses, located in the Inner City. Its history began at the end of the 19th century when it was opened by the Pahis brothers. After the demolition of the Café Griensteidl, Central became the most popular spot among artists, poets, and other people of creative professions. At the beginning of the 20th century, the café became a haven for scientists, who held their meetings there. World War II forced the café to close, and it was only 30 years after the war ended that the establishment was restored. Today, Central is as popular as it was a century ago.
