I definitely recommend small plates here, the wine list is good too, but the large plates were not salted properly and were pretty average. However, the staff is very kind, helpful and accommodating.

Mara is the new kid in town amongst all the well established eateries that make Leith,in my mind, quite possibly the top foodie destination in the City? Nestled in between Martin wishart and Toast,Mara could not ask for better neighbours. It was a busy Wednesday evening, the sun was shining on the water of Leith and all the outside seats were full with people having a great time. My son and I ordered a couple of bar nibbles to go with our beers before the arrival of our steak frites. Perfectly cooked Bavette, rested, sliced and placed upon a mound of crispy fries, and then smothered in a lovely peppercorn sauce, what else do you need? It was absolutely delicious, and an absolute bargain at 15 quid. City centre Edinburgh would be taking double that at least out of your wallet for the same thing. So,if you're looking for an unpretentious destination, with great service at extremely affordable prices, then Mara is definitely the place to head to.

The music in the back room was so loud that the people at our table couldn't hear each other at all.
