Eine Bewertung schreibenThe Jewish Ghetto in Rome is a place steeped in history, but my visit left me with mixed feelings. While the area has a unique charm and historical significance, I expected to see more visible tributes and memorials to the Jewish community, especially given the tragic events that occurred here during World War II. There are some plaques and Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) commemorating victims of the Holocaust, but they feel sparse compared to the weight of the history. The **Turtle Fountain** was under renovation during my visit, which was a bit disappointing since it’s one of the Ghetto's most iconic landmarks. The **Tempio Maggiore di Roma (Great Synagogue)** was also closed, further limiting the experience. However, the ancient ruins in the area, like those of **Portico di Ottavia**, are truly stunning and worth seeing. They offer a glimpse into the deep historical layers of this neighborhood, dating back to Roman times. Overall, it’s a pleasant place to explore with its narrow streets, kosher restaurants, and historical atmosphere, but I hoped for a stronger sense of connection to its Jewish heritage. It’s still worth visiting for its cultural and historical significance, but be prepared for a more subtle experience than you might expect.
If you're avoiding touristic crowded places, this is worth your visit. Nice historic and architectural things to see and a load of Jewish restaurants and pastries to enjoy real local food.
La Gran Sinagoga de Roma y sus alrededores son lugares llenos de historia, muy lindos, muy bien preservados. La zona es segura. Muchos restaurantes y cafés para disfrutar. Comida kasher disponible. Muy buenos todos los lugares dónde comimos.
