As I stood at the counter, Alphonso himself stepped up behind me, his hand slow and reassuring on my back. Leaning in, his voice a low murmur, he said, “The beauty of ice cream, Craig, is how it melts for you if you give it the chance.” I wasn’t sure if he meant the gelato or something deeper, but I left with my soul—and my spoon—completely full.
