El senderista que se adentra en la sierra de Columbares puede disfrutar de los cultivos de secano a sus faldas: campos de almendro, olivo, plantaciones de hortalizas etc... Se alterna el paisaje de bosque mediterráneo dominado por pinos carrasco, lentisco, palmito, esparto y hierbas aromáticas (tomillo, romero, hinojo...) con los cultivos de la zona. Se pueden ver especies de aves rapaces, ardillas, zorros. La sierra permite divisar tanto el campo de Cartagena hacia el sur y la costa murciana como el interior de la región con el valle del guadalentin al norte.
