I'm sliding in safe with a four star review for Emilio. I read some of the other reviews and this place seems to have a bit of controversy for all the wrong reasons. I can't say whether or not the staff likes me, or serves me less than others, but they seemed to give me exactly what I ordered so this is about a food controversy. Okay, as you can tell, I'm not technically Mexican. So it seems weird to me when I know more about native traditions than some of the natives. This isn't the first argument about traditional food I've gotten into, and I'm batting 1000% so far, and this location confirmed my correctness. With that said, let's get this out of the way. Traditional barbacoa is made with goat or lamb, not beef. I feel like the American need industry is unstoppable, and they've made many afraid to by street talking in the USA because they imply the meat is shady. I, and many other people in the world, find eating goat meat totally acceptable. Goat meat is the entire reason I stopped by this place. By including the word "traditional," I was eager to discover what type of meat he was using. With that said, barbacoa is technically a preparation style, not a type of meat, but I've grown up with goat meat while everyone has beef. In all seriousness, barbacoa literally translates to barbeque, which is something I don't have time to address as a black person, but everyone should be warned if they are expecting an American BBQ flavor. 😜 The meat texture and flavor was exactly what I expected. It was super soft and fatty, what adding a bit of salsa and salt made it nearly perfect. This place itself is nothing special (it's an outdoor popup) but it's packed every weekend. I pass by after my Sunday runs and you can't even get a seat. It was at least a month before I realized what was being served here. I got excited... Why the setting is very informal, I found the service to be great (I came back on a weekday) and the staff to be very friendly. After asking the goat question I felt like I had my Mexico card checked with a series of questions regarding garnishments and the number of tortillas you use, but I'm sure I passed. Overall, the place serves some delicious tacos, but without something else to compare them to, I can only issue a four star review. Great job!
