We visited Gail’s Café and really enjoyed the cinnamon bread — it was lovely, fresh, and full of flavor. We also ordered two cappuccinos: one was great, but the other was unfortunately quite watery and inconsistent. Overall, the food was very nice, but the coffee quality could be more consistent.

I have different ways of telling people how old I am. And one of the ways is to say that I remember when there was only one Gail’s bakery (and one Pret A Manger and one Leon for that matter). Nowadays, they’re sprouting up everywhere, even out of London I was in the area at the weekend and visited Gail’s bakery in Hampstead which is where it all started. The mothership. These days, most of us are familiar with Gail’s offerings from their many outlets and the original shop had the usual selection. There wasn’t much seating, so I got my pastry to go Great to visit a bit of culinary history
