Set in several rooms underneath Finsbury Library, this is a gem of a museum, covering amongst others, the story of Welsh farmers walking their cattle to Smithfield Market, local theatres, underground rivers, life during wartime and even some books with covers adulterated by Joe Orton the playwright. When I was there,a video was playing relating experiences of women who had spent time in Holloway prison. Free entry,no need to book.

A small and informative museum, definitely worth a visit. It displays information on Islington's history and changing society; local radicals and dissenters; from fashion to leisure and prisons in the borough. Showcases facts, anecdotes and memorabilia from locals through the years. Staff member at reception helpful and welcoming. There is a permanent exhibition area and an area for temporary exhibitions. Note it closes for one hour at lunchtime (at time of writing 13:00-14:00).
