History, atmosphere, great selection of ales, dog friendly, outdoor area with excellent views and music. Car shows are great and food vans on site during events. Best pub in the area.

This is a very quiet very old Lancashire pub the interior is unique and it has a thatched roof. The Management are extremely friendly and the beer on hand pump and on dispenser is all well kept. There’s an excellent beer garden outside terrace to the rear and a large covered area inside a marquee. Food options are limited to local pies which are delicious and also a cheeseboard which is tremendous Highly recommended if you’re passing along the road from Maghull to Southport It’s located in Lydiate next to the Lydiate Abbey ancient monument. A very pleasant rural location to feel next door often has Highland cows in it . Be sure to visit either of the nearby farm shops both of which sell a range of fresh vegetables locally produced jams and spreads And General groceries.

Lovely little pub, plenty of seating, the tiniest bar you'll ever see, bike meets on Wednesday evenings, weekly live music, toilets are outside, plenty of free parking, nice little walk to the abbey ruins next door.
