This is a truly unique museum, holding the distinction of being the world’s first dedicated to the history of a regional city. Admission is free, and it’s both informative and engaging, with the added bonus of a stunning, sweeping view of the River Mersey from one of its upper floors. For anyone who enjoys learning about the story of a city and her people, this museum is a must—especially when it’s a city as vibrant and special as Liverpool. One highlight for me was an exhibit featuring the different birds that once contended for the right to be associated with the city’s name—I had a good laugh there. My mum and I spent about two hours exploring, and still didn’t manage to see everything. It’s definitely the kind of place you can return to time and again, always leaving with something new learned.

The exterior of the museum is an architectural gem! I didn’t get a chance to explore it from the inside, though.

Museum of Liverpool offers free entry to visitors while donations are welcomed. Nearby, you’ll also be able to visit the Maritime Museum for free as well. We thought both museums were excellent because at the Museum of Liverpool, you’ll be able to learn about the history of Liverpool while the Maritime Museum offers a glimpse into its maritime past. During our visit to the Maritime Museum, we were also blessed to have seen the Titanic exhibit which in some cities is a paid entry. There, we learnt about the 2 hours 40 minutes from the time the Titantic hit the ice berg till her sinking on 14 April 1912. However, the exhibits at Titantic did not allow photography. Hence, this post will cover some of what we saw at the Museum of Liverpool instead. The Museum of Liverpool is located at the Docks and Waterfront of Liverpool. Its unique architecture is a nod to Liverpool’s history and a modern take on how the city looks ahead towards the future...
