Storica piazza genovese, al fondo del centro storico, da cui si osserva il porto e la passeggiata del lungomare accanto alla zona musei. Delimitata dalla sopraelevata e dalla strada storica più bassa che corre in direzione sud-ovest, è un'isola quasi tutta pedonale con alcune zone rialzate dove sedersi e riposarsi. Tra gli altri, si affacciano sulla sua forma quadrangolare Palazzo San Giorgio e, lato mare, l'Acquario. Al centro della piazza si trova la statua di Raffaele Rubattino, che offrì le navi a Garibaldi per la spedizione dei Mille. La piazza fu costruita a fine Ottocento, con l'intento di essere luogo di caricamento e di scaricamento delle merci dal porto.
