Il Forte Richelieu provoca sensazioni contrastanti. Da un lato abbiamo una costruzione davvero imponente, in un bell'ambiente naturale e con una vista magnifica sull' area metropolitana di Genova, in particolare verso est. Dall'altro non si può fare a meno di chiedersi come sia stato possibile autorizzare all'interno del forte l'installazione di un enorme ripetitore televisivo e come sia possibile lasciare la costruzione priva di qualunque forma di manutenzione ed in condizioni di degrado. Il forte, costruito nella seconda metà del Settecento, è posto ad un'altezza di 415 metri sulla collina di Camaldoli, che fa da spartiacque tra la valle di Quezzi e quella del torrente Sturla. Insieme con il forte Monteratti a nord, il forte Quezzi ad ovest ed i forti di Santa Tecla, San Martino e San Giuliano a sud-ovest, proteggeva il settore nord-orientale della città di Genova. La via più comoda per raggiungerlo è dall'istituto Don Orione, con una camminata in salita di circa 20 minuti. Il forte non è visitabile, ma è molto piacevole percorrere i sentieri circostanti.
