Nestled in the heart of Florence since 1930, Museo Galileo offers a captivating journey through the worlds of astronomy, meteorology, alchemy, and ancient scientific instruments. With an average rating of 4.5 on Google, this museum is a must-visit for history and science enthusiasts looking for a unique experience beyond Florence's traditional art museums.
Spending 1-2 hours here allows you to explore an extensive collection of telescopes and compasses, including those made and used by Galileo himself, and even his middle finger. Not particularly crowded, even during high season, the museum welcomes photography and provides air-conditioned comfort.
Although there is no cafe onsite, nearby restaurants cater to your culinary needs after your visit. A small museum store offers a selection of intriguing items to commemorate your visit. Tickets are easily accessible with no waiting in line if purchased onsite and can also be bought online.
Designed to be family-friendly, Museo Galileo features an interactive guide for kids available in the last room, though it's not recommended for very young children. The highlight here is the educational value, focusing on the history of science and early scientific instruments.

Op zich is de uitgestalde verzameling mooi en indrukwekkend om te zien. Er had naar mijn mening alleen veel meer gedaan kunnen worden om bijvoorbeeld door middel van replica's inzichtelijk te maken wat de uitvindingen nou werkelijk kunnen etc. De bijgevoegde lappen tekst geven natuurlijk wel een idee, maar voor de entreeprijs van €13 euro per volwassene verwacht ik iets meer dan het gebodene. Het "interactieve" deel op de benedenverdieping maakt dat niet goed. Het is nu toch vooral kijken naar oude wereldbollen , thermometers en telescopen. Daarnaast was het personeel bij de entree nou niet het meest vriendelijke dat we zijn tegengekomen. Tamelijk kortaf en niet bepaald genegen om je enigszins welkom te laten voelen. Als je echt niks te doen hebt kun je dit museum meepakken en als je het overslaat heb je niet direct iets gemist is mijn idee.

Simply stunning, a scientific journey through the ages. Every exhibit is brilliant but to see Galileo's own telescopes and realise through those devices he changed the world is awe inspiring.
