Tucked away in the serene outskirts of Edinburgh, Dr Neil's Garden offers a delightful escape into nature's embrace. Celebrated for its tranquil beauty and winding paths, this hidden gem sits alongside Duddingston Loch, providing breathtaking views of the water and Arthur's seat.

As you wander through the gardens, you'll discover a physic garden with medicinal plants. The gentle paths meander through the woodland hillside amongst a mixture of plants from around the world. The garden is usually an oasis offering peace and calm without the usual hustle and bustle of city life.

Visitors often appreciate the variety of birds and other wildlife that call this peaceful sanctuary home. Art exhibitions are often hosted in the Thompson Tower during the summer months.

Although finding the entrance might pose a slight challenge, the effort is well worth the rewards of calm solitude perfect for reflection or a good book.

The adjacent Duddingston Kirk has a cafe that opens from April to September between 10-4 on Thurs-Sat and 1-4 on Sundays.

Easily reached by a 45-minute bus ride from Edinburgh's city center or a scenic walk from Craigmillar Park, Dr Neil's Garden is more than just an attraction; it's a sanctum of tranquility.

Fantastic views of the Loch. Lovely gardens with loads of benches. Great sandwiches and cakes in the cafe too!

Tranquility at its most tranquil. Beautiful gardens. Not too big, but I could spend all day here.

Lovely tranquil place to while away an hour. Some of the reviews here giving it one star, I mean Jesus, have a word with yourselves. It's free, and it's beautiful. My only negative is that it is quite hard to get to on public transport. The number 12 bus is your best bet, but it takes a fair old time from town. I'd also recommend putting some good signage up on the entrance to the street itself, as it's not totally obvious where it is - and this is a local talking here. But all in all, a great little place and great cafe.
