Durham Cathedral is absolutely breathtaking – a true masterpiece of history and architecture. Walking inside feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by beauty and stories carved in stone. We also braved the Cathedral Tower – 325 steps later (and thankfully back down again without calling a helicopter! 😅), we were rewarded with stunning panoramic views over the city and River Wear. Definitely worth the climb – and the workout! The Cathedral Museum was another highlight. It’s a real treasure chest, with artefacts spanning centuries, including a copy of the Magna Carta. Fascinating, well-presented, and much more engaging than any “terms & conditions” you’ll find today. 😉 Durham Cathedral isn’t just a landmark – it’s an experience. Beautiful, inspiring, and full of hidden gems that make the visit unforgettable.

Reputed to be the biggest cathedral in Europe. Famed for it's position on an incised meander on the River Wear. Noted for being the final resting place of St Cuthbert and it's role in early English Christianity. One of the clergy took the opportunity to pray with the multi cultural visitors for 10 minutes or so. This was sensitively done and I thought it was a great initiative, I've not witnessed before.
