House of the Dukes of Brabant in Brüssel
Über
The House of the Dukes of Brabant can rightfully be called a unique example of Brussels architecture, combining several elements of classic Flemish styles and traditions. Surprisingly, no dukes ever lived within its walls. The building served as a "screen" behind which several guild houses were hidden.
The facade is adorned with nineteen busts of the Dukes of Brabant, which have lent it its name that has come down to us. The top of the facade is complemented by an exquisite bas-relief of "Abundance" and a whole series of gilded vases on the balustrade. The house enjoys special popularity among tourists, and excursions often take place within its walls, which are also loved by the locals.

Trés bien

The Huis der Hertogen van Brabant, or House of the Dukes of Brabant, is a stunning row of six interconnected guild houses located on the eastern side of the Grand Place in Brussels. Though named after the Dukes of Brabant, none of them ever lived there—the name comes from the busts of the dukes that adorn the upper façade. The current structure dates back to the late 17th century, rebuilt after the French bombardment of Brussels in 1695, and showcases a harmonious Baroque style with elegant columns, gilded ornaments, and detailed stonework. The façade gives the illusion of one grand palace, although it’s actually made up of individual buildings, each with its own history and original function related to trade guilds. Today, the House of the Dukes of Brabant stands as a symbol of Brussels' commercial and architectural heritage, attracting visitors with its beauty and historical significance.

Un grand ensemble de style baroque tardif qui abritait plusieurs corporations au XVIIIe siècle. Impressionnant.
